Life Care Center of Columbia, Tennessee, held its first chili cook off on Jan. 27.
Three judges were tasked with picking the three best chili recipes out of 10 that were entered by members of the nursing, admissions, environmental services and MDS departments.
The judges were Kenneth Purdom, husband of Vanessa Purdom, director of business development, and Lauren and Gary Caperton, daughter and husband of Peggy Caperton, director of admissions.
After tasting each batch of chili, the judges finally decided on the winners. First place went to Stephanie Krueger, MDS nurse; second place went to Hollie Bottoms, MDS/infection control nurse; and third place went to Michayla Williamson, MDS nurse.
Associates enjoyed tasting the different types of recipes, ranging from spicy to meaty and even some with secret ingredients.
This was the first event planned in 2017 for associates by members of the Fun Committee, a group of department managers who plan monthly events for associates.
“It’s fun to plan activities for our associates as a small token of appreciation for all they do for our residents,” said Purdom.
The Fun Committee also plans events for residents, including a Valentine’s Day party, Easter egg hunt, daily activities for each day of National Nursing Home Week, a Fourth of July party and many other events.
